Description
A free non-CEU webinar
When problem behavior keeps showing up even after a solid interview and a well-planned analysis, the culprit is often something you didn’t plan for: a conditioned motivating operation (CMO-R) or an idiosyncratic establishing operation unique to your learner. In this discussion-based hangout, Hillary Laney and Celia Heyman talk through how CMO-Rs show up at every stage of the PFA and SBT process, how to spot them, and how to adjust when the “script” doesn’t fit. Expect real case examples, open conversation, and a lot of “it depends.”
What is covered
- A quick refresher on CMO-Rs and the many forms they take: words, tone, people, materials, settings, time of day, and private events
- Idiosyncratic EOs, unstated rules, and learning histories (including trauma) that can keep problem behavior going
- Reducing CMO-Rs for caregivers and staff during the open-ended interview so you get more useful information
- Troubleshooting the control condition when happy, relaxed, and engaged is hard to reach, and why attention matters so much
- Building the right synthesized EO for the test condition
- Choosing FCR and tolerance response topographies that don’t act as CMO-Rs, and what to do about scrolling
- How signals and labels like “practice” or “break” can become aversive, and how to fix it
- CABS considerations: task order, prompt types, tolerance for errors, and knowing when a target is “too hot”
- Making procedural changes based on safety, dignity, rapport, and televisability
