Description

“Enhanced Choice Model” offers 2 general learning CEUs. Participants will learn the three conditions of the Enhanced Choice Model (ECM) and client characteristics that can potentially benefit from this. Also discussed: “What if they never choose practice?” Your instructors for this course are Hillary Laney and Melisa Santacroce. About Your Presenters…

Hillary Laney, BCBA, is passionate about providing services to clients with significant behavioral needs which prioritizes dignity, safety, rapport, and assent. She received her M. Ed from the University of Washington and has extensive experience as a practitioner and in supporting practitioners, agencies, and schools to provide more comprehensive services to those who need them most. Hillary currently serves as the Vice President of Functional Assessment and Treatment at Centria Autism. She is responsible for staff development and training oversight across the agency in the implementation of assent-based interventions including; Universal Protocols, Practical Functional Assessment, and Skill-Based Treatment. In the past year, Hillary has overseen the training of over 300 supervising clinicians and her team has supported over 300 successful Practical Functional Assessments. In her free time, she volunteers moderating the PFA & SBT Community, an online group of over 20,000 members, which provides free content for members to learn and grow in assent-based practice.  

Melisa Santacroce, M.S. CCC-SLP, BCBA, is the owner of Balance and Speech Behavior. Melisa completed her Masters of Science in Communication Disorders from California State University at Northridge in 2011 and worked as a Speech Language Pathologist.  She then completed coursework and fieldwork to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in 2014, joining a group of fewer than 400 professionals in the world who have both as SLP and BCBA credential. Melisa has worked in ABA centers in New Mexico since 2014 across all ages. She has utilized Skills Based Treatment (SBT) with individuals with severe and dangerous problem behavior and is currently conducting research on this method.

Learning objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the 3 conditions of the Enhanced Choice Model (ECM)
  2. Describe the target characteristics of ECM
  3. Define conditions how to train loosely regarding ECM
  4. Identify the five steps of P.E.A.R.L
  5. Discuss the progression of the AFLS, Vineland and QOL over time after using the ECM
  6. Identify the consequences of choosing to opt out of ECM
