“Leisure Branch Design” offers 1 general learning CEU. Participants will learn what past factors possibly led clients to consider toys/activities as aversive, also how this leads to the design of new branches. Lastly, usage of electronics is discussed. Your instructors are Hillary Laney, Penny Holloway and AnnaMarie Stoudenmire.

About Your Presenters…

Hillary Laney, BCBA, is passionate about providing services to clients with significant behavioral needs which prioritizes dignity, safety, rapport, and assent. She received her M. Ed from the University of Washington and has extensive experience as a practitioner and in supporting practitioners, agencies, and schools to provide more comprehensive services to those who need them most. Hillary currently serves as the Vice President of Functional Assessment and Treatment at Centria Autism. She is responsible for staff development and training oversight across the agency in the implementation of assent-based interventions including; Universal Protocols, Practical Functional Assessment, and Skill-Based Treatment. In the past year, Hillary has overseen the training of over 300 supervising clinicians and her team has supported over 300 successful Practical Functional Assessments. In her free time, she volunteers moderating the PFA & SBT Community, an online group of over 20,000 members, which provides free content for members to learn and grow in assent-based practice.  

Penny Holloway, MA, BCBA is a PFA/SBT Trainer at Behavior Interventions Inc, a company dedicated to serving families, supporting fellow team members, and collaborating with organizations that work with the families. Penny has worked in the autism field for 12 years, has owned a private school in the Netherlands for autistic individuals aged 7-18. Penny has been practicing Applied Behavior Analysis since 2017, earned her MA in Applied Behavior Analysis at Rider University and graduated in 2020 and also passed her board exam in 2020. She has worked in homes for 6 years and is passionate about providing compassionate, effective, socially valid treatment while empowering clients and their families. The main focus of Penny’s work is disseminating safe, compassionate, dignified, trauma assumed, assent based, effective treatment in which rapport, bringing joy and building skills are key elements in treating target behavior.

AnnaMarie Stoudenmire, MA, BCBA has been a Board Certified Behavior Analyst since 2016, and lives in upstate South Caroline working with teens and young adults with autism. She has been implementing SBT since 2020 with older learners and learners with more advanced language skills.

Learning objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify why teaching leisure skills is important
  2. Define possible factors that have lead clients to consider toys/activities as aversives
  3. Identify what the leisure skill branch teaches you about the client
  4. Describe how to identify new branches based upon the leisure branch
  5. Describe how to teach leisure skills
  6. Define how to design the leisure skill branch
  7. Define considerations with regards to electronics
