“Mistakes were Made” offers 1 general learning CEU and discusses how to select the first SBT case, boundaries, training staff, treatment dosage, grey reinforcement and getting stuck on the TR/FCR. About Your Presenters…

Hillary Laney, BCBA, is passionate about providing services to clients with significant behavioral needs which prioritizes dignity, safety, rapport, and assent. She received her M. Ed from the University of Washington and has extensive experience as a practitioner and in supporting practitioners, agencies, and schools to provide more comprehensive services to those who need them most. Hillary currently serves as the Vice President of Functional Assessment and Treatment at Centria Autism. She is responsible for staff development and training oversight across the agency in the implementation of assent-based interventions including; Universal Protocols, Practical Functional Assessment, and Skill-Based Treatment. In the past year, Hillary has overseen the training of over 300 supervising clinicians and her team has supported over 300 successful Practical Functional Assessments. In her free time, she volunteers moderating the PFA & SBT Community, an online group of over 20,000 members, which provides free content for members to learn and grow in assent-based practice.  

Bethany Creech has been working in the field of ABA since 2005 and has been a BCBA since 2014. The focus of her work as a behavior analyst has been with students with disabilities in private day and public schools since 2016. She is passionate about building positive relationships between staff and students through assent-based assessments and interventions including Practical Functional Assessment & Skill Based Treatment and Collaborative Problem Solving.

Meghan (Crowley) Moloney is a Neurodivergent Clinician who believes that teaching to people’s strengths is what truly builds confidence.  After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Developmental Disabilities, Meghan completed her Master’s Degree in Severe Special Education with teaching licensure in 2013, and continued her education in ABA at Endicott College. Meghan received her Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA) in 2013 and is a licensed Behavior Analyst. Meghan is a board member of Caribbean Association for Behaviour Analysis, and has served as a Member of the Clinical Review Board at numerous agencies.  She is a certified Special Education teacher in the U.S. Virgin Islands and was a Special Education Teacher at Pearl B. Larsen School. Meghan assisted in developing the first adult ABA program on St. Croix. With over 14 years of experience working with autistic children, teens and adults, Meghan looks forward to continuing to provide ABA services to children, adults, and families within the territory and disseminate values based services.

Cindi Kennedy is a native Floridian who currently works with a large scale organization mentoring clinicians in neurodiverse affirming practices focused on uplifting individuality and promoting assent-based therapy. Her passion for ensuring all autistic recipients of ABA services are uplifted and have a voice in their own treatment decisions drives her to be active as a moderator in the PFA and SBT Community. Cindi has worked as a Director of Clinic-based services at an early intervention clinic in Florida where she also has experience as an in-home and telehealth clinician. 

AnnaMarie Stoudenmire, MA, BCBA has been a Board Certified Behavior Analyst since 2016, and lives in upstate South Caroline working with teens and young adults with autism. She has been implementing SBT since 2020 with older learners and learners with more advanced language skills.

Edward Sanabria has been working with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities for over 12 years. Gaining experience in the public-school setting, he spent 5 years developing from a direct care staff to a clinician in an ABA private school before shifting his focus to the in-home and community setting. Edward received his master’s degree in Behavior Analysis from Simmons University in 2015 and has been a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and licensed clinician in the states of Massachusetts and now Connecticut since. He is currently enrolled at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology pursuing a doctoral degree in Behavior Analysis.

As a BCBA, Edward has continued to develop his skills, focusing on the implementation of compassionate, values driven services for families, integrating new evidence strategies into his clinical practice, and providing mentoring and supervision to RBTs and BCBAs at the Speech Pathology Group and Rehab Services of Connecticut (SPGCT). In practice, he currently implements the Practical Functional Assessment and Skills Based Treatment processes in the home and clinic settings. While taking advantage of the opportunities to work directly with his clients, Edward strives to find creative and meaningful ways to help the families and children strengthen their relationships in the home and develop relationships around the communities. Edward also serves as a mentor for the Simmons University masters in Applied Behavior Analysis program where he provides supervision for students’ experience hours. Edward’s research and practice interests include interdisciplinary collaboration, development of ecologically relevant repertoires for BCBAs, and the application of behavior analysis to adaptive aquatics.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify which clients to select as a first SBT case
  2. Identify challenges and solutions for maintaining HRE
  3. Explain how to establish and define hard/soft boundaries
  4. Understand what to do when therapist boundaries are crossed during SBT
  5. Understand what to do when staff is under trained
  6. Identify the consequences of micro shaping
  7. Identify what to do when you get stuck on the FCR/TR
  8. Understand grey reinforcement
