Assent goes beyond consent, empowering individuals to actively participate in their care decisions, fostering a collaborative and respectful approach. In this guide, we explore how assent enhances client safety, builds trust, and nurtures a successful therapeutic relationship. We’ll also learn about measuring, assessing assent, and individually tailoring interventions to clients.
Our Guides are designed to get you started with the many resources we have to offer! Have more specific questions? You can always make a post in our FaceBook Community!
What is “assent”?
Ensuring client safety and building a solid therapeutic relationship go hand in hand, and that’s why measuring and assessing assent is super important. When we talk about assent, we’re talking about getting clients actively involved in their own care. It’s all about making sure they are willingly participating in treatment. By measuring and assessing assent, we’re not only keeping our clients safe, but we’re also showing them that we value their input and respect their choices. It’s like saying, “Hey, we’re in this together, and your voice matters.” When we make assent a priority, we create an environment of trust, collaboration, and mutual respect, which is vital for effective treatment – SBT or not!
