In this workshop, participants will learn how to leverage an effective technology (PFA-SBT) to implement procedures that have shown ecological efficacy as demonstrated in our literature and aligned to gold standard treatment for interfering behavior (Jessel, et al., 20211; Fiani & Jessel, 2022). Participants will leave this workshop equipped with: Considerations when working with individuals who’s interfering behavior impacts their access to education and reinforcing environments, skills to de-escalate behavioral episodes and the knowledge to teach meaningful skills to individuals they are supporting in order to increase access to education in the school setting.

Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to effectively communicate to stakeholders the safety benefits of the Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) and Skill-Based Treatment (SBT) process.
- Participants will design a plan for outside of SBT that takes school-based environmental considerations into account.
- Participants will describe an effective, replicable, and compassionate technology to implement a functional analysis.
- Participants will demonstrate the use of the Open-Ended Interview to design their analysis.
- Participants will tact observable behaviors to pinpoint Happy, Relaxed and Engaged in their learners.
- Participants will be able to design and demonstrate implementing the Practical Functional Assessment (PFA).
- Participants will design and prepare for the implementation of Skill-Based Treatment (SBT) to increase the skills of communication, cooperation and toleration.
- Participants will learn nuanced approaches to the design of Skill-Based Treatment (SBT) when faced with limited resources within the school setting.

- Can I come just for some of the days? Sorry, no, there are no partial attendance options- each day builds on the knowledge of previous days
- Is there a virtual option? No! IN-PERSON ONLY in Fairfield, NJ- Due to the nuances of PFA-SBT, the most effective format for learning is a hands-on model incorporating behavioral skills training (didactic learning, modeling and role-play with feedback).
- Will I be given any resources to help me implement on my own? Yes, you will provided with… a Guide Book and separate Planning Book, developed by Nicky, that walks you through each step of the process via easy to understand visuals and flow charts!
- Is this only for BCBAs? NO! Although BCBAs will earn CEUs, Nicky’s jargon-free approach makes this workshop applicable for BCBAs; Behaviorists; Teachers; School Administrators; Social Workers; School Psychologists; Consultants; etc!
- What is not included in the workshop cost? Hotel accommodations, transportation & meals are not included in the cost of the workshop. Light refreshments will be available throughout the day and there is a yummy Italian restaurant on-site!
About your instructor…
Nicola (Nicky) Schneider is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst with nearly 20 years of experience working with vulnerable individuals of all ages and skill levels. Nicky has a bachelor’s degree in special education and a master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. Additionally, Nicky completed a post-master’s certificate program in Educational Administration. Nicky holds NJ Department of Education certifications as a special education teacher, supervisor and principal. Nicky has served as a special education teacher, behavior analyst and supervisor in private and public schools, as well as for insurance-based agencies. Nicky’s passion lies in empowering those she trains to encourage, support and learn from the individuals they serve. She believes that through genuine interaction, we can intrinsically create a foundation of mutual respect and cooperation.
